About Steve

I’m Steve Miller — forty years in enterprise networking, retired in 2026, and now spending most of my time on a golf course or in the backyard behind a smoker or a Blackstone griddle. This site is where I tell the real version of that story, and point you toward the sites where I go deeper on each piece of it.

What I’m About

I’m not trying to make this look more polished than it is. The point is to document real experiences, enjoy the process, and keep getting a little better at the things I care about.

Cooking

Food and Fire

Backyard cooking has been a 20-year habit at this point — low-and-slow on a Weber Smokey Mountain, plus a few years now on the Blackstone griddle. Some cooks turn out great, some teach a hard lesson, and I document both on backyardsmoking.com and backyardgriddle.com.

Chasing Better Rounds

Golf is close to a daily habit now — I even put a simulator in the garage so weather stops being an excuse. I track the real rounds, scorecards and all, over on scaredlittlebitch.com.

Life After the Office

My wife and I live in Tennessee with the youngest of our three daughters. Our oldest lives abroad, currently in Mexico, and our middle daughter is in California with my son-in-law and grandson — who I’m already making excuses to visit more. Two dogs and a cat round out the household and make sure retirement never gets too quiet. Retirement’s also meant more travel than I’m used to, a lot more Peloton, and finally enough time to actually finish the projects I used to just talk about.

“Forty years fixing other people’s networks. Now I’d rather fix my short game.”
